Mission Statement
The Sterling Federal Credit Union is a financial cooperative that was established to provide quality financial services and a safe and sound financial environment for its members. The Sterling Federal Credit Union is locally owned and controlled by its members who are residents of Logan and Morgan Counties and their families.
About Us
On April 15, 1938 ten astute men gathered in a meeting room at the County Poor Farm in Sterling to form Sterling Cooperative Federal Credit Union. As Sterling Cooperative Federal Credit Union we were associated with the Co-op.
As unconventional as the cooperative idea of financial services was is the fact that the credit unions first Chairman of the Board was a woman! A Chairwoman was not common in 1938! Ethel Tetsell, or Mrs. Bert Tetsell, as she was always referred to, lead the credit union from its beginning in 1938 through 1942.
In order for everyone in the community to share in the “Cooperative,” the credit union amended its charter in 1945 and became Sterling Community Federal Credit Union. That made membership attainable to anyone living in Logan County.
The charter was expanded again in 1989 to include Morgan County, and a branch office was opened in Fort Morgan. In 2004 the credit union name was modified to Sterling Federal Credit Union.
Today, a full service credit union with assets exceeding $212 million we have come a long way since our humble beginning in 1938 when the only services available were share/savings and loans and assets totaled $90.00.
Over the years, members have consistently received higher rates on share/savings and lower rates on loans because the credit union has adhered to the credit union principle of “Not for Profit, Not for Charity, but for Service” and to credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.”
Today, members can chose from a complete line of financial products and services which include but are not limited to; ATMs, Debit and ATM Cards, Electronic statements, E-mail, Internet/Home Banking, Mobile Banking and Bill Payment Services that include P2P email payments.
The above industry capital to asset ratio and reserves of the credit union provide financial stability and security to members. In addition, the credit union is highly rated by its regulator, The National Credit Union Administration, NCUA.
We encourage you to visit Sterling Federal Credit Union and learn how banking is done the credit union way. We strive to provide affordable financial products and services, a safe place in which to save and borrow, and to treat each and every member with courtesy and respect.
